Announcement to be made Monday September 22nd 5-7 PM
Hello, everyone!
Well, I had a good time and learned a lot at the conference in Terlingua. The classes were great, the people even better. We also had a really good time listening to a smaller version of Los Pinche Gringos at dinner at Lajitas Friday night.
I played the Black Jack golf course for the very first time Saturday with my old Houston friend James Guest and a couple of cool commissioners from East Texas. The last time I played golf at Lajitas was in 1998. I played there several times at that time, as I was camping out in the Big Bend State Ranch Park for three weeks by myself and I told my mother that I would call her every few days to confirm I was OK. This was before cell service out here so I would go to Lajitas to use the pay phone at the store (Clay Henry’s store) and then pay a round of golf, buy a loaf of homemade sourdough and a bag of ice and then drive the Murgatroyd (my 1967 Suburban) back to campsite near Sauceda in the park.
The new golf course is the opposite of the old. Very very green, incredibly long and really hard. But really great. I’m not a good golfer but I run around so I don’t hold things up. Anyway, it was a blast and I hope to get to do it again next year.
That being said, the social time and also the tiny (but nice) little Air BNB I stayed in in Terlingua kept me from really getting into the weeds on the computer. I didn’t have a desk to set up at and, honestly, after spending time outside most of Wednesday and Thursday I just wasn’t up to burning the nighttime oil. Anyway, I have plenty to write and will get to it all in due time.
Monday I’m having a get together at Larry’s Burgers in Marfa from 5-7 to make an announcement and gather support for the next phase in my County government career. I’ll best explain the details as to why I’ve made this decision I’ll announce in further columns here but if you’ve read back a ways I think you can take a good guess as to what I’ll be trying to get done this time around during election season and why.
I appreciate the support and your taking the time to keep track of me. I’ll take this moment to let you know that I promise to continue to work hard and be available to individuals who wish to contact me about anything Presidio County.
Gracias! -DB
