Catching up after the 2025-2026 County budget negotiations
I’m hoping to write on several topics over the next three days. I will be attending, starting tomorrow, the Annual training in Far West Texas for Commissioners and County Judges, held in Terlingua with some events in Lajitas as well.
Thinking about policy and getting further trained in policy and legal updates regarding what the State tells us what we can and cannot do and how is always enlightening and gets my mind rolling. The end result is that, after dinner with colleagues I’m jazzed up to write some things down and revisit recent events (policy trauma?)
This year’s Presidio Cunty budget cycle started out promising, with some long awaited plans looking like they were to be finally realized and apparent consensus on the realities facing the County. Hope was also still in existence for a possible deal with the State to transfer the Presidio/Ojinaga internatonal bridge over to the County for possible tolling and ancillary development opportunities.
Over the next few days I’ll try to cover the big things that happened and didn’t and also the fallout over how these failures were executed by leadership. Lastly, I’ll attempt to explain my takeaways from these things and how I plan to approach policy in the future with what I believe the State is poised to do regarding “property tax cuts” as they phrase it.
I’ll send an email blast out once I believe I’ve covered enough ground; and I’ll also be announcing how I plan to approach election season (I’m up again this coming year- Primary and General elections, March and November, respectively.
Thanks for your interest; I’m committed to working and leading. I feel like I have been true to my ideals and that they have not changed much at all over the years. The stories surrounding them are constantly evolving and the more knowledge I absorb the more I can stay calm and lead with strength and poise.
Hasta manana! - David
